Birthday Edition | Part ONE - Finding Good Friday #3

Gaining Momentum
Before I get into the meat of the FINDING GOOD FRIDAY update, I have a selfish ask. If you're the praying type, please send one up for my friend and personal hero, Rachel. If you've been following along with recent life events or listened to the first episode of The FINDING GOOD Podcast, you know Rachel's story.
This morning at 7:15am, Rachel was wheeled back into the operating room at MD Anderson Cancer Center - my old cancer stomping grounds - as surgeons began working to remove the soft tissue sarcoma tumor from her right arm.
Our experiences are eerily similar: the tumor extraction was expected to take roughly two hours, with reconstruction and skin grafting expecting to last up to 10. When I underwent my facial reconstruction, I was in the OR for 12.5 hours. I am more than confident Rachel will emerge on the other side of this stronger than ever, but as any survivor or family member will tell you, the waiting can drive you crazy.

So when you have a few minutes today, send prayers, healing thoughts, and positive vibes for Rachel, Andrew, Ezra and Ruby as we prepare to celebrate Mama Fury's upcoming victory!
On to the FGF Update! In exactly one week I'll enter my FORTIETH year on this planet. I cannot tell you how unbelievable that sounds. A few gray strands have emerged in my stubble, the tops of my hands have started to wrinkle every so slightly, and I couldn't be happier about it.
At 38, I've already doubled my life expectancy. Doctors believed that if I relapsed after my first bone marrow transplant that I likely would not live long enough to see adulthood. In the years since recovering from my battles, I've been blessed with the ability to travel the world, meet the best people, and do my part in uplifting others in myriad ways. It's truly what drives me each day.
Through all the cancer, addiction, and learning how to live again, I never expected to make it this far. I don't know how much time I have left on this planet, but I can promise you I am going to make the most out of it.
Next up: The Inaugural FINDING GOOD GOLF Classic is a GO!You might have seen news of this on my Instagram feed or in this week's Monday Motivation email, but I'm sharing here again just in case. I've always wanted to host my own charity golf tournament, and I'm thrilled to host it at one of my life-long favorite venues with one of my favorite nonprofits as the beneficiary, Flatwater Foundation! We're expecting 250 guests with around 100 golfers and the event WILL sell out, so secure your tickets now! (Click the graphic below to sign up.)

Finally: If you live near Central Texas and like to ride bikes, you've likely heard of my beloved Breakfast Club ATX. Next week we head to West Texas for a BC excursion in magical Marfa! A few years ago we created a summer getaway in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Inspired souls from all over the country converged in the land of enchantment for group rides in the mountains, pool side hangs, and fireside chats.
This year, Marfa came calling and we plan to take over the incomparable enclave with over 100 BC faithful. What started out as four friends breaking bread after a hilly bike ride has evolved into a community of countless remarkable people who have chosen to embrace all this world has to offer on two wheels.
Mike at Breakfast Club ATX - July 27, 2024
Stay tuned for PART TWO of FINDING GOOD FRIDAY when I will share a special birthday message with plenty of content from our trip out west.
The first Friday of each month will feature a good story from me to you to remind you that life may not always go as planned, but there is plenty to celebrate each day.
As always, don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, want to learn more about communication theory, are in need of some added inspiration, or just want to grab tacos and catch up.
As human beings we have an inherent desire to celebrate the victories of others. In her bestselling book Braving the Wildnerness, renowned psychologist Brené Brown discusses the bravery needed to show up for others in moments of severe pain, not just times of collective joy. My friend Mitch Ammons has experienced plenty of both. And despite his growing collection of accolades in both running and real estate sales, Mitch's journey toward greatness actually began on a road to recovery. We...
**If this is your first time receiving an email from FINDING GOOD (or you just need a refresher of why I am so cool 🤙), this little blog should do the trick.** My friends, It's hard to believe we are already halfway through the first month of the new year. As I'm certain it was for you, 2024 was easily one of the most memorable years of my life. As I continue revolving around the sun for the 40th time, much of this year so far has been spent reflecting on the journey that brought me to where...
Hello from MARFA! 39 years old. I never thought I'd live this long. At the same time this email lands in your inbox, I will be traversing the highways of West Texas with more than 100 of my friends. Every year for the last three, Breakfast Club ATX has escaped the humid heat of summer in Austin for the cooler, dryer mountain air of Santa Fe, New Mexico. While our excursions into the Land of Enchantment are cherished to be sure, this year - which happens to be our 4th birthday (August 7th) -...
